Transfer Credit Procedures

UCSC Baskin School of Engineering has articulation agreements with other universities and colleges in California, which tend to be mostly for lower pision or prerequisite courses. In order to get credit for these courses you need to send a copy of your OFFICIAL transcripts to:

Office of Admissions
University of California Santa Cruz
1156 High Street
Santa Cruz, CA 95064

AND

An UNOFFICIAL copy to:
Undergraduate Student Affairs Office
Baskin School of Engineering
1156 High Street
Santa Cruz, CA 95064
fax: (831) 459-5333

NOTE: you will not be able to enroll in engineering courses at UCSC until we have reviewed your unofficial transcript

The courses you took at other institutions can help you at UCSC in several ways.

  1. units (you need 180 to graduate)
  2. general education requirements
  3. course requirements for the major

The Admissions Office will evaluate your transcripts and determine the first two and the School of Engineering Undergraduate Office evaluates the third. After your transcripts have been evaluated you will need to set up an appointment with an advisor to begin planning out your schedule towards graduation. You can do this by contacting bsoeadvising@ucsc.edu or via telephone (831) 459-5840.

Please note: It is more beneficial to you and the Undergraduate Office if you remain consistent with one advisor. That is, if you have already made contact with an advisor and have begun to work on a plan and/or fill out petitions with them, please continue to work with them.

If your College or University does not have transfer agreements with UCSC for the major courses you took, and you believe the course(s) covers the same material as one at UCSC, you can submit a Petition for Course Substitution or Waiver form. Along with this form you will also need to submit a course description and/or syllabus (or as much information about the course as possible) to be evaluated by the Undergraduate Director of your department.
