Incoming New Frosh
Welcome to UCSC! We’re excited to meet you.
What to enroll in for your major in Fall:
Incoming frosh seeking enrollment guidance will be given the tools necessary for choosing and enrolling in classes as a part of Slug Orientation. If you would like to know which classes we recommend that you enroll in during your first quarter, the Getting Started in the Major Guides will be a good place to start.
CSE 20 testout:
Students with programming experience who wish to bypass the introductory programming course (CSE 20) should take the online CSE 20 testout exam on July 16 at 3:00pm PDT. This test requires that students register by 12:00noon PDT on July 15. See CSE 20 Testout Exam for more information and to register.
How to get major advising questions answered:
If after reading through the Getting Started In Your Major Guides, you have some questions about your fall enrollment in major classes, advisors will be available to answer questions via the advisor chat hours at the top of this page. Please note that you will have the opportunity to receive guidance on longer term academic planning sometime in Fall quarter.
Enrollment Support:
If you need enrollment support during your enrollment appointment, your Orientation Leader Team will be available to answer any questions or concerns you may have if you need support navigating your MyUCSC on your enrollment day. More information can be found on their site here.
Incoming New Transfer Students
Welcome to UCSC! We’re excited to meet you.
Incoming transfer students that were admitted to a BE major and have submitted their unofficial transcripts, will receive an email during the week of July 7 (to their UCSC email) from a BE Undergraduate advisor to set up an advising appointment.
During these appointments an advisor will provide information to students about which classes they are receiving credit for and recommendations on which major classes to enroll in for Fall 2025 prior to their fall enrollment date.
